 3 Days Mount Meru Trek Itinerary

 

Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain at 4,566 meters, located within Arusha National Park. This 3-day trek offers an exciting adventure through forests, wildlife-rich trails, and stunning volcanic landscapes, making it an excellent choice for active travelers and mountain lovers.

📅 DAY 1 – Arusha to Miriakamba Hut

🔹 Elevation:

1,500m to 2,500m

🔹 Hiking Time:

4–6 Hours

🔹 Distance:

Approximately 10 km

After breakfast, depart from Arusha and drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park for registration. Begin your trek through beautiful grasslands and rainforest where you may encounter giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, monkeys, and colorful bird species.

The trek continues gradually uphill until you reach Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

📅 DAY 2 – Miriakamba Hut to Socialist Peak & Return to Saddle Hut

🔹 Elevation:

2,500m to 4,566m to 3,570m

🔹 Hiking Time:

10–12 Hours

🔹 Distance:

Approximately 14 km

Wake up around midnight and begin your summit attempt toward Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru. The trail passes through rocky ridges and dramatic landscapes with incredible night views.

Reach the summit at sunrise and enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru Crater, and the surrounding plains.

After celebrating at the summit, descend to Saddle Hut for rest, meals, and overnight stay.

📅 DAY 3 – Saddle Hut to Momella Gate & Return to Arusha

3,570m to 1,500m

🔹 Hiking Time:

4–6 Hours

After breakfast, descend through scenic forest trails back to Momella Gate. Receive your trekking certificate and meet your driver for transfer back to Arusha.
