6–7 Day Machame Route Itinerary – Mount Kilimanjaro

The Machame Route, also known as the “Whiskey Route,” is one of the most popular and scenic ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers diverse landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and a high summit success rate. This route is best suited for trekkers seeking a challenging yet rewarding adventure.

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Altitude: 1,800m → 3,000m

  • Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

Your journey begins at Machame Gate, where you will register and enter the lush rainforest zone. The trail is steep and muddy in places, surrounded by dense vegetation, towering trees, and wildlife such as monkeys and birds.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Altitude: 3,000m → 3,840m

  • Hiking Time: 10–14 hours

Your summit attempt begins around midnight. You will climb slowly in the dark under cold conditions, reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Watching the sunrise from the summit is an unforgettable moment. After celebrating, you will descend to Mweka Camp.
