7 Days of Wild Tanzania
From towering baobabs and wandering elephant herds to the endless golden plains of the Serengeti, this seven-day journey takes you deep into the diverse landscapes and wildlife habitats of Northern Tanzania.
Designed for travellers who want to experience Tanzania beyond a quick safari, this itinerary allows more time to explore four iconic destinations while experiencing the unique character of each ecosystem.
Your adventure begins in Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most distinctive wildlife areas. The park is famous for its large elephant population, enormous baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which becomes an important source of water for wildlife during the dry season. The combination of woodland, grassland and seasonal wetlands creates an excellent environment for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo and numerous antelope species.
The journey continues to Lake Manyara National Park, a remarkably diverse park situated beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Despite its relatively compact size, Lake Manyara contains groundwater forests, woodland, open plains and wetlands. These different habitats support elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, baboons and an impressive variety of birdlife. The park is also known for its occasional tree-climbing lions.
From Lake Manyara, travel into the vast wilderness of Serengeti National Park. Here, the landscape opens into enormous grasslands where wildlife stretches across the horizon. The Serengeti is home to large populations of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and other herbivores, together with predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas. Depending on the season, you may also witness wildlife associated with the Great Migration.
The final chapter takes you to the Ngorongoro Crater, a spectacular volcanic caldera surrounded by dramatic walls. The crater floor supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife within a relatively compact area. Game drives here can reveal lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and a variety of antelopes, with the possibility of encountering the endangered black rhinoceros.
With additional time in the Serengeti, this seven-day itinerary gives you a better opportunity to experience the rhythm of the wilderness rather than simply passing through each destination. It combines wildlife, landscapes, photography opportunities and authentic safari experiences while maintaining a practical budget.
Whether this is your first African safari or your return to Tanzania, From Giants to the Great Plains offers a memorable journey through some of the country’s most extraordinary natural environments.
